ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST
- Ground squirrels in the Angeles National Forest were found to have a bacterial infection that when transmitted to humans through the bite of a flea can cause bubonic plague.
It is the first such contamination in Los Angeles County's ground squirrel population this year, the county's Department of Health Services reported.
The Switzer Falls area of the forest, located about six miles above Altadena off Highway 2, will be closed until August 21.
