Source Reduction

Mosquito source reduction is a critical component of the District’s Integrated Vector Management (IVM) program and is also interrelated with the public relations aspects of the program. The goal of source reduction is to minimize larval mosquito production through habitat reduction. Reduction of larval mosquito habitat prevents mosquitoes from reaching the adult stage of their life cycle, reducing the potential for mosquito-borne virus transmission, disease and discomfort to the residents and visitors of Marin and Sonoma counties. Mosquito source reduction can eliminate or minimize the need for multiple applications of mosquito larvicides and adulticides.
